WHEN THE BANDAGES CAME OFF

from $25.00

ABOUT THIS PIECE

This painting comes with a bit of history. At the end of 2019, I ended up in the hospital with a heart issue. While laying there, in my fever, I imagined flying over the history of my life and was looking down on the path to that moment.

When I got back to work in the studio, I did my best to capture that moment of flying over my past, with this painting, but life-changing moments are not the easiest to define, and you don't always understand the full magnitude at the time. It's just chaos that you're trying to sort out, make sense of, and grasp at anything familiar and comforting. It isn't until much later, removed from the chaos, that all the pieces come together, and the clarity of your path reveals itself. It could also just be that time helps us organize events in ways that help us cope and move forward.

Looking back at this painting, I intentionally didn't use black, even though it was a very dark moment. I was happy to be alive, and removing the darkness seemed like the proper way to best move forward. I'm glad I did, and thank you so much for joining me on this journey.
